err, we won a rather big award

When we started eddge some three years ago, we did so for a few reasons. Firstly, it would be disingenuous to say that we didn’t want to have our own thing. Because we did. We wanted a business we could put our own stamp on; taking all the good things we have learnt over the years and (without a hint of arrogance) making some other things, with our hands at the proverbial wheel, a bit better.

Secondly, we thought we could make our service to you even more personal than it was over the previous years. We very much hope we have achieved that.

But what we never, ever (and we really mean ever) considered, not even for a nanosecond, was that we were doing it to win an award. Between us, we’ve won two junior football awards, a local award for services to eating (and spending money) at restaurants and best smile in the mortgage industry (that last one is obviously nonsense). But now we find ourselves in the heady position of being awarded the Mortgage Strategy Best UK Small Mortgage Broker Award for 2023. It’s humbling, surprising, an honour and, frankly, flipping amazing.

Last week, at the rather grand surroundings of London’s finest Grosvenor House Hotel, the great and the good of the UK’s mortgage industry met for the mortgage Oscars (yep, they exist, sort of). And when they came to award the Broker Awards after telling the audience the winner had a highly tailored and impressive approach to looking after its clients and its people, they only went and said our name. To be honest, we’re still getting over it.

What made this award particularly special was that we were first nominated for it by our industry peers. So, we must be doing something right. Since then, we have been through a rather rigorous shortlisting process that saw us make, well, the shortlist, with six other small brokers. The rest, as they say, is history.

Finally, we get to the important stuff. At the risk of sounding like some actor overdoing the thanks to family, friends, pets and mild acquaintances, we would never have been in this position without you, our clients. Year after year, you have put your trust in us to arrange your mortgage and, more than that, you supported us when we began life out on our own, as eddge. To say we are grateful for that would be an understatement of frankly Herculean proportions. It’s probably not appropriate or professional to say we love you, but hey ho, we just did.

So, we just wanted to take the time to thank you and, of course, ever-so gently tell you that you now have an award-winning mortgage broker in your corner. Urgh, it feels a bit big-headed even saying it. Forgive us, we’re just quite excited.

With our very, very best wishes

(and a whole heap of thanks),

Elliot, Darren and Darryl.
